Team Leadership
Team 2016 is set up in a hierarchy of individuals. The head of the team, the Team Captain, maintains order in the team, keeping an effective system of communication between the technical and business sides of the team. The Captain makes sure that everyone is doing their respective jobs in an orderly and efficient manner.
Sub-sections
The team is then split into three major sub-sections, each overseen by the
Technical Manager, Business Manager, and Competition Manager, respectively.
The sub-section leaders are incharge of sub-teams according to
their feald.
Sub-teams
The Technical Manager is in charge of the Electrical, Mechanical, and Programming sub-teams and the overall production of the physical robot. The Business manager oversees the Marketing and Chairman’s sub-teams and raises awareness for the team at large. The Competition Manager is responsible for the preparation for and everything that goes on at the competitions, including strategy, scouting, driving, safety, rules, and team spirit.
Each subteam has a
specific task be it involving the robot itself, or the whole
team.
Our team is composed of the following subteams.
●
Design
The Design Sub-team interprets the year’s challenge and designs a 3D
computer model of our robot. The Design team creates the model of the robot using
solidworks. This gives the Mechanical and Electrical teams a ‘blueprint’ of what we want the robot to look like, as well as the full measurements of each part and how the different parts will connect. Eric Marks is the Design Captain for our team.
● Mechanical
Mechanical is the body of the robot, the shell that protects the inner works of the robot such as the battery and wiring. On the Mechanical Sub-team students operate tools, create and read schematics, and build the robot to compete in this year’s challenge. Nour Srouji and Patrick O’Callaghan are Mechanical’s Co Captains.
● Electrical
The Electrical team deals with the inner wiring of the robot akin to the nervous and cardiovascular systems of the human body. Members on the Electric Sub-team work on connecting the different parts of the robot together; such as connecting the motor to the wheels. Without such vital connections the robot would be a lifeless body of metal with no ability to move or interact with the game. Jalen Fortson is the Electric Captain for our team.
● Programming
Programming can be seen as the brains of the robot; the computer software that connects it to the controllers and allows it to function. It does this through Code, a set of written instructions we create that tells the robot to carry out specific functions with the mechanisms that are in place on the robot. Blake Lawson is our team’s Programming Captain.
● Strategy
Strategy is also a key part of our robotics team. Here we study the other teams and their robots as they compete. This is how we know which teams we want to be alliance with; we talk to the team members, keep track of whether the robot is a defensive or an offensive bot, their speed, control, and scoring. The key to performing well in any competition is having a good strong team to back you up. Raza Alam is the Strategy Captain for our team.
